Poetry – One Source of Bad Information
One Source of Bad Information
There is a boy in you about three
Years old who hasn’t learned a thing for thirty
Thousand years. Sometimes it’s a girl.
This child had to make up its mind very early
How to save you from annihilation. He said things like:
“Stay home. Avoid elevators and Uncle Johnnie.
Only eat candy when no one is looking.
Watch mostly cartoons on TV.
Hide your treasures where no one will find them.”
You live with this child’s rules, but you don’t know it.
You go to the office, yes, but live with this boy
At night. He’s uninformed, but he desperately does want
To preserve your life. And he has. So you can count on that. Because of this boy
You survived a lot. He’s got six big ideas.
Five don’t work. Right now he’s repeating them to you.
